A Unique Restaurant Deep Inside a Cave near the Pyramids of Teotihuacan, Mexico





La Gruta restaurant is a must visit for lunch or dinner when visiting the Pyramids of Teotihuacan. Located deep in a cave, the brightly colored furniture, table linens and candles really make this place burst with life.

This unique restaurant established in 1906, is just outside Entrance 5 (behind the Pyramid of the Sun). La Gruta is a spacious cave of volcanic origin, surrounded by vegetation and with a mystic and unmatched atmosphere.  It is truly one of the most traditional and impressive places in the area.



Here you'll the opportunity to savor delicious dishes that mix the ingredients of the local cuisine with the culinary heritage of pre-Hispanic times as well as enjoy traditional folk shows . It's about 30 to 40 steps down to the cave itself.



 For over a century La Gruta restaurant has been an icon and landmark in the restaurateur and tourism sector of Mexico. Through-out the years, the restaurant has had the pleasure to welcome high public figures from different fields, like painters Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, writer Jorge Luis Borges, Queen Elizabeth II, among other influential people.
