Best Time to Visit the US Virgin Islands (St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix)





The U.S. Virgin Islands offers three exciting tourist destinations, the islands of St. Croix, St. John and St. Thomas.

Virgin Islands are a magnificent archipelago of islands along the Caribbean Sea. The Islands

When To Visit

The best time to visit is April to June. This is when you can expect mild weather and very little rainfall. During the peak season, from December to March, the temperature ranges from the mid-70s to high 80s with breezy evenings. July to October is the region's hurricane season with average temps in the upper 80s.

For springtime travel, lowest fares can be found early May while the highest fares are mid April.

Getting There 

By Plane:

Flights are into either St. Croix or St. Thomas. St. John does not have an airport, but is easily accessible via St. Thomas.

Many flights connect through San Juan, Puerto Rico, but direct flights from the continental U.S. involve less hassle and flying time.

Direct flights into St. Thomas can be found from Chicago-O'Hare, Washington-Dulles, and Newark on United Airlines; Miami, Boston, and New York-JFK on American Airlines; Atlanta and Detroit on Delta Airlines; Charlotte, Philadelphia, and New York-La Guardia (weekly) on US Airways, and Ft. Lauderdale on Spirit Airlines.

Direct flights into St. Croix can be found from Miami on American Airlines; Atlanta (twice weekly) on Delta Air Lines; and Charlotte on US Airways (weekly, seasonal). St. Croix can also be easily reached from St. Thomas by flying Cape Air or also by Seaborne Airlines (which flies seaplanes between Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas and Christiansted, St. Croix).

By Boat:

Ferries run between all three US Virgin Islands, as well as to and from the British Virgin Islands and, on a seasonal basis, Puerto Rico.

St. Thomas

Virgin Islanders are actually from different parts of the globe. St. John

However, if you're a non-US citizen, the requirements to enter the US Virgin Islands are the same as the requirements you need to enter the US from any part of the world. Even upon departure, US citizens are not required a passport. For non-stop flights and connecting flights, you can travel from New York, Boston, Baltimore, Atlanta and Philadelphia to Dallas, Los Angeles, the San Juan hub, Canada, South America, the Far East and Europe. There are also commuter services available between San Juan to St. Thomas. These airlines will take you in-between islands in only 17 minutes.


St. Croix
